Bringing Literature to Life: St. Rose Students Experience Broadway

From Classroom Pages to the Broadway Stage

At St. Rose School, learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door, it comes to life in meaningful and memorable ways. This year, our 6th and 8th grade students had the incredible opportunity to take their learning beyond the page and onto the Broadway stage, on two separate trips to New York City.

After spending the school year exploring these works in their ELA classes, students traveled with Mrs. Murphy to experience the stories firsthand through live theater.

On one trip, our 6th graders attended Wicked, deepening their understanding of character development, perspective, and theme as they saw the story unfold in a powerful and visually stunning performance.

On another day, our 8th graders traveled into the city to see The Outsiders, bringing new dimension to the novel they studied in class. Watching the characters and conflicts come to life on stage gave students a richer appreciation for the story’s themes of identity, belonging, and resilience.

These trips were more than just days in the city, they were meaningful extensions of the thoughtful literary work happening all year long. Students were able to connect what they read, discussed, and analyzed in class with real-world experiences that made those lessons more impactful and lasting.

From navigating the energy of New York City to sitting in a Broadway theater, each trip was filled with excitement, discovery, and inspiration. Experiences like this are what make a St. Rose education so special, where academics, culture, and community come together to create lifelong memories.

A special thank you to Mrs. Murphy for guiding our students through these literary journeys, and to our parent chaperones for helping make these trips possible.
