Meet Flip! A Special Visitor at St. Rose School
Bringing Science to Life—One Turtle at a Time

At St. Rose School, learning comes to life in the most unexpected, and delightful, ways!
This week, students had the chance to meet a very special guest in science class: Flip, a 9-year-old red-eared slider turtle, brought in by our very own Mrs. Petrillo. And let’s just say… Flip quickly became a school favorite!
Flip isn’t just any turtle, she found a loving home with Mrs. Petrillo and her daughter. as a young turtle. Thanks to Mrs. Petrillo’s passion for science and hands-on learning, students were able to interact with Flip up close, ask questions, and learn all about her habitat, diet, and daily care.
Throughout the day, the school was filled with curiosity and excitement as students gathered around to observe Flip, share facts, and even watch her movements and behaviors. And the fun didn’t stop there, Flip also enjoyed some fresh air, joining students outside during recess!
This experience is a wonderful example of what makes St. Rose so special. Our teachers go above and beyond to create engaging, real-world learning opportunities that spark curiosity and make lasting impressions. By bringing her own pet into the classroom, Mrs. Petrillo turned an ordinary day into an unforgettable science lesson.
At St. Rose, science isn’t just something we read about, it’s something we experience. And thanks to Mrs. Petrillo (and Flip!), our students are learning to explore, question, and discover the world around them in exciting new ways.
We think it’s safe to say… Flip is always welcome back!
