At St. Rose School, learning comes to life in the most unexpected, and delightful, ways!

This week, students had the chance to meet a very special guest in science class: Flip, a 9-year-old red-eared slider turtle, brought in by our very own

           Mrs. Petrillo

. And let’s just say… Flip quickly became a school favorite!

Flip isn’t just any turtle, she found a loving home with Mrs. Petrillo and her daughter. as a young turtle. Thanks to Mrs. Petrillo’s passion for science and hands-on learning, students were able to interact with Flip up close, ask questions, and learn all about her habitat, diet, and daily care.

Throughout the day, the school was filled with curiosity and excitement as students gathered around to observe Flip, share facts, and even watch her movements and behaviors. And the fun didn’t stop there, Flip also enjoyed some fresh air, joining students outside during recess!

This experience is a wonderful example of what makes St. Rose so special. Our teachers go above and beyond to create

that spark curiosity and make lasting impressions. By bringing her own pet into the classroom, Mrs. Petrillo turned an ordinary day into an unforgettable science lesson.

At St. Rose, science isn’t just something we read about, it’s something we experience. And thanks to Mrs. Petrillo (and Flip!), our students are learning to explore, question, and discover the world around them in exciting new ways.

Discovering Passions, Exploring Possibilities, and Preparing for the Future

At St. Rose School, our students are encouraged to dream big, explore their passions, and begin thinking about the paths that lie ahead.

Recently, Mrs. Murphy’s 8th grade class took an exciting step toward their futures through their Career Research Projects.

Each student began by taking career assessment quizzes and reflecting on their individual interests and strengths.

From there, they dove into in-depth research to better understand potential career paths. Their work went far beyond simply choosing a job title, students explored salary ranges, job demand around the world, cost of living, educational requirements, and necessary certifications.

The project culminated in student presentations, where classmates had the opportunity to learn from one another and discover a wide range of career possibilities.

The variety was impressive, future aspirations included everything from Zoo Keeper to Electrical Engineer to Pediatric Surgeon.

This project not only strengthened research and presentation skills but also gave students a meaningful glimpse into their future. It was inspiring to see their curiosity, dedication, and excitement as they shared their findings.

The Class of 2026 is full of potential, purpose, and promise, and we can’t wait to see where their journeys take them next!

A Season of Giving, Service, and Faith in Action

At St. Rose School, Lent is not only a season of prayer and reflection, it is a time of action, generosity, and living out our faith in meaningful ways. Under the guidance of Sister Thaddeus, our annual Lenten Mission brings our entire school community together to answer one powerful question: “What can I do to help others?”

Throughout the Lenten season, our students, families, and faculty unite to support both global and local missions, reminding us that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a lasting difference.

Student Leadership and Daily Mission Moments

Each morning during Lent begins with a special mission announcement led by a student from Grade 2. With confidence and compassion, they remind their peers of the importance of helping others and encourage everyone to give what they can. These daily messages reinforce the spirit of Lent and empower even our youngest learners to be missionaries of kindness.

           Fun with a Purpose

Giving at St. Rose is both meaningful and engaging. Students can participate in weekly raffles by purchasing $1 tickets, with exciting prizes that bring joy while supporting a greater cause:

Stuffed animals for students in Pre-K through Grade 3

Dunkin’ gift cards for students in Grades 4–8

Each Friday, winners are announced, creating excitement while reinforcing that every contribution, big or small, matters.

           Sacrifice, Service, and Community

Lent also calls us to personal sacrifice. Each Wednesday, students are encouraged to give up a small treat, like a snack, and donate instead to the Lenten Mission Drive. These intentional acts help students understand the value of sacrifice and empathy for those who have less.

In addition, our community comes together for a March Tag Sale, organized by Mrs. Rahtelli, Mrs. Winnington, and Mrs. Cocchiola. This special event not only raises funds but also brings families together in support of our shared mission.

A Faith That Lives Beyond the Classroom

Sister Thaddeus’ Lenten Mission is a beautiful reflection of what makes St. Rose School so special. It teaches our students that faith is not just something we learn, it is something we live. Through prayer, sacrifice, and generosity, our students are growing into compassionate leaders who understand the power of giving and the importance of serving others.

As we journey through Lent, we are reminded that even the smallest act of kindness can reflect God’s love in the world.

“Let’s all answer—Yes, we can help others!”

Celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation

         St. Rose School – 2026

St. Rose School joyfully celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation for our students, marking a meaningful milestone in their faith journey. It was a beautiful and reverent celebration, filled with prayer, reflection, and a strong sense of community.

We are deeply grateful to Bishop Caggiano for presiding over this special Mass and for his inspiring message to our students as they received the gifts of the Holy Spirit. His presence made the day truly memorable for our candidates and their families. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Father Peter, Sister Thaddeus, and all of our dedicated religious who guide and nurture the spiritual growth of our students each and every day. Their commitment to faith formation is a true blessing to our school community.

The liturgy was made even more special through the participation of our students. Seventh graders Dylan and Alessandra proclaimed the readings with confidence and grace, and we were proud to have altar servers made up of both current and former St. Rose students, an inspiring reminder of the lasting impact of a St. Rose education.

Congratulations to our newly confirmed students! May the Holy Spirit continue to guide you, strengthen you, and fill your hearts with faith, courage, and love as you continue your journey.

There was a special kind of excitement in the air at St. Rose School as students celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with a blend of faith-filled learning, creativity, and a touch of playful mystery.

           Second Grade: Learning with Wonder

Our second grade students fully embraced the spirit of the day as they learned about St. Patrick and his teachings, with a special focus on the Holy Trinity. Through thoughtful discussions and hands-on activities, students explored how St. Patrick used the shamrock to explain this important concept of faith in a way that is still meaningful today.

The classroom quickly transformed into a hub of creativity as students put their engineering skills to the test by designing and building leprechaun traps. Each trap was unique, showcasing imagination, problem-solving, and excitement as students eagerly anticipated whether their clever designs would succeed.

Science was also woven into the day’s learning. Students explored the beauty and science of rainbows while discussing plant needs, connecting seasonal themes with foundational scientific concepts. These hands-on experiments encouraged curiosity and helped bring their learning to life in a tangible way.

A Surprise Visit in Seventh Grade

Meanwhile, in seventh grade, the day took an unexpected turn when a mischievous leprechaun appeared to have visited the classroom. Students arrived to find signs of a playful disturbance, tiny footprints, a bit of chaos, and a few surprises left behind.

The experience sparked laughter, curiosity, and plenty of storytelling as students pieced together what might have happened. Moments like these create lasting memories while fostering a sense of fun and community within the classroom.

           Bringing Learning to Life

From exploring faith through the story of St. Patrick to engaging in creative building challenges and hands-on science, the day reflected the dynamic learning environment across grade levels. Students were not only learning concepts but actively experiencing them, through collaboration, imagination, and shared moments of discovery.

St. Patrick’s Day at St. Rose School was a reminder that meaningful learning often happens when tradition, creativity, and curiosity come together.

There was a sense of excitement in the air at St. Rose School as students gathered to celebrate National Bubble Day with a special visit from Bubble Mania and performer Casey Carle.

From the moment the show began in the Gathering Hall, students were captivated. Preschool through grade 4 filled the room with anticipation as Casey launched into an engaging performance that blended science, storytelling, and interactive fun. Later in the morning, students in grades 5–8 had their turn, experiencing the same sense of wonder as they watched bubbles stretch, float, and transform in unexpected ways.

Bubble Mania is more than entertainment. Through each demonstration, students were introduced to scientific concepts such as surface tension, air pressure, and geometry in a way that felt accessible and exciting. Watching a bubble expand to surround a person or float effortlessly across the stage sparked curiosity and invited questions, turning the performance into a memorable learning experience.

The day extended beyond the show itself. Each student received their own bottle of bubbles, offering the opportunity to continue the experience back in the classroom and outdoors. Whether experimenting with bubble shapes, testing how long they could keep a bubble intact, or simply enjoying time together, students were able to carry the spirit of the day into their own hands-on exploration.

Events like Bubble Mania reflect the vibrant learning environment at St. Rose. Students are encouraged to engage with new ideas, think creatively, and experience learning in ways that are both meaningful and memorable. At the same time, these shared experiences bring the school community together, creating moments of joy that resonate across grade levels.

National Bubble Day at St. Rose was a reminder that learning can be both rigorous and joyful, and that even something as simple as a bubble can inspire curiosity, connection, and a lasting sense of wonder.

Celebrating learning, leadership, and the moments that connect our school community

At St. Rose School, learning often extends beyond the traditional classroom experience, blending academics with creativity, leadership, and connection across grade levels.

This week, our middle school students brought that spirit to life through a celebration of Pi Day, paired with a special opportunity to serve as mystery readers for our preschool students.

           Bringing Math to Life

In honor of Pi Day (3.14), middle school students explored the significance of π through a variety of engaging, hands-on activities. Rather than simply learning formulas, students applied their understanding through creative projects, visual representations, and problem-solving exercises that highlighted both the precision and beauty of mathematics.

From carefully designed circle diagrams to imaginative interpretations of the infinite nature of π, students demonstrated not only their understanding of mathematical concepts but also their ability to think critically and express ideas in meaningful ways.

           Leadership in Action

This week, Middle school students stepped into a different kind of role, as mystery readers for our preschool classrooms.

With books in hand and a sense of excitement, they visited the youngest members of our school community, sharing stories and engaging preschoolers in an experience that was as impactful for the readers as it was for the listeners.

These interactions create natural opportunities for older students to lead with confidence and compassion, while younger students begin to see themselves as part of a larger, supportive school community. The connections formed in moments like these often leave a lasting impression, strengthening relationships across grade levels.

           A Community That Grows Together

Experiences like Pi Day and mystery reading reflect the everyday rhythm of life at St. Rose School. Academic learning is enriched through creativity, and students are regularly given opportunities to step outside of themselves, to lead, to mentor, and to connect.

It is in these shared moments that students develop not only knowledge, but also confidence, empathy, and a strong sense of belonging.

Hands-on learning inspires the next generation of thinkers and problem-solvers.

At St. Rose School, curiosity is alive and thriving in every classroom. Our students are learning that the future belongs to the curious, the ones who are willing to try new ideas, explore possibilities, ask questions, and discover how the world works.

Throughout our classrooms, students are stepping into the roles of scientists, engineers, and mathematicians. With hands-on learning experiences, they are experimenting, building, calculating, and problem-solving in ways that spark both creativity and critical thinking. Whether they are designing structures, conducting experiments, solving challenging math problems, or testing their ideas through trial and error, our students are learning that discovery often begins with a simple question: “What happens if…?”

At St. Rose, we encourage our students to be bold thinkers. We celebrate the ones who are not afraid to try something new, explore different possibilities, poke at problems from different angles, question what they see, and even turn ideas completely inside out. These moments of curiosity are where learning truly comes to life.

Our teachers foster an environment where exploration is encouraged and mistakes are simply part of the journey toward understanding. Students are learning that perseverance, creativity, and curiosity are just as important as the answers themselves.

When students approach learning with curiosity, incredible things happen. They begin to see themselves as innovators, problem-solvers, and leaders of the future. Whether they pursue careers in science, engineering, mathematics, or another field entirely, the skills they are building today, curiosity, resilience, and critical thinking, will serve them for a lifetime.

At St. Rose School, we believe that every question has the potential to spark discovery, and every student has the potential to change the world.

Because the future truly belongs to the curious.

Read Across America Week at St. Rose School has been nothing short of joyful, creative, and wonderfully wacky! While the weather outside has been unpredictable, the excitement inside our school has been unstoppable.

Throughout the week, our halls and classrooms have been filled with giggles, smiles, and incredible creativity as students embraced each day’s reading-themed challenge. From crazy socks to wild hairstyles and wacky outfits, our students truly brought their A-game and made every day a celebration of books and imagination.

The week began with “SRS in Socks,” where students proudly showed off their favorite and craziest socks with their uniforms.

The following day, our hallways transformed into a parade of creativity during “Daisy Head Students” day, with students sporting imaginative and sometimes gravity-defying hairstyles.

Midweek brought even more excitement with “Reading Feeds the Imagination,” where students dressed wacky from head to toe, filling the school with bright colors, silly combinations, and plenty of laughter.

Despite an early dismissal and a delayed start during the week, the enthusiasm of our students never wavered. Their excitement for reading and participating in the daily themes remained strong, proving that a love of books can brighten any day.

Thursday, we were especially excited as the halls of St. Rose transform into a living library during our “SRS Cast of Characters” celebration. Students arrived dressed as their favorite book characters, bringing beloved stories to life and sharing the characters that inspire them most.

From classic heroes to imaginative storybook figures, it’s a wonderful reminder of how books spark creativity and connection.

The week concluded with “Drop Everything and Read”, where students brought a blanket and their favorite book to enjoy a cozy reading time together.

At St. Rose School, Read Across America Week is more than just fun dress-up days, it’s a celebration of the power of reading, imagination, and the joy that books bring into our lives. Watching our students engage so enthusiastically reminds us that stories truly have the power to inspire, educate, and bring our community together.

We are so proud of our students and grateful to our teachers for creating such a memorable week filled with creativity and a love of reading.

This week, our St. Rose middle school students once again demonstrated curiosity, leadership, and a true love of learning — and this time, it all started with frogs.

As many of you know, frogs have taken on a life of their own in our middle school lab this year. So when students in grades 6–8 learned about a program being offered at the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary, excitement spread quickly. What began as simple interest turned into something much bigger: a hands-on conservation initiative that connected our students with scientists across the country.

After reaching out to the sanctuary for more information, families were invited to participate in an evening training session — and the response was incredible. Nine students attended in person with family members from 6:00–8:30 PM, while additional students joined via Zoom as part of a national training session of 41 participants. In fact, the entire in-person sanctuary event ended up being exclusively St. Rose students and families — essentially our very own private training!

The program was led in partnership with experts from the Yale Peabody Museum, the The Maritime Aquarium, and the Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo. Students learned about ten frog species native to Connecticut, including how to identify them by physical traits, habitat, and — most impressively — their distinct calls. After completing a short quiz, our students aced it!

Participants are now preparing to complete an official assessment through the Beardsley Zoo, earning certification as “Frog Watchers” by scoring 80% or higher. Once certified, students may register nationally to contribute to FrogWatch USA, a community science initiative affiliated with the Akron Zoo.

As part of this program, students will collect weekly data and submit observations that directly assist scientists in monitoring frog and toad populations and wetland health. They learned how to use the Beaufort Wind Scale to measure wind speeds, how to assess frog call intensity, and how to record precipitation, temperature, and species identification. Their data will contribute to real scientific research — an extraordinary example of authentic, applied learning in action.

Laura King, Director of Programs and Events, and Ken Elkins, Director of Education and Partnerships at the sanctuary, were deeply impressed by our students’ engagement and knowledge. We are incredibly proud of how they represented St. Rose — not only with enthusiasm, but with professionalism and a genuine commitment to conservation.

An Italian-Inspired, Hands-On Approach That Made Grammar Come Alive

Learning punctuation has never been more delicious! This week, Mrs. Murphy brought creativity—and a touch of Italy, into her middle school classroom by transforming a traditional grammar lesson into an immersive, Italian-themed experience using pasta to teach punctuation.

From the moment students walked in, they were greeted by an atmosphere inspired by all things Italian. But the real magic happened when Mrs. Murphy introduced an innovative, hands-on way to understand punctuation marks, using a variety of pasta shapes as visual and tactile tools. Elbow macaroni, spaghetti, shells, and more became commas, periods, quotation marks, and question marks right before students’ eyes.

By connecting each punctuation mark to a pasta shape, students were able to see and build sentences in a new way. The lesson encouraged active participation, collaboration, and plenty of curiosity as students constructed sentences, corrected errors, and explained their punctuation choices, all while engaging multiple senses. What might normally feel like a dry grammar topic quickly turned into an energetic, memorable learning experience.

This creative approach not only helped reinforce punctuation rules, but it also made learning fun and accessible for different learning styles. Students laughed, asked thoughtful questions, and walked away with a stronger understanding of how punctuation shapes meaning, plus a lesson they won’t soon forget.

Mrs. Murphy’s pasta-powered punctuation lesson is a wonderful example of how imaginative teaching can bring curriculum to life. Bravo to Mrs. Murphy for serving up a lesson that was equal parts educational and inspiring!

Building Financial Literacy and Confidence Through Interactive, Real-Time Investing

This fall, our 7th and 8th grade students stepped into the exciting world of finance through the Stock Market Game, an immersive simulation that gives students a virtual $100,000 to invest in real-time markets. Guided by Mrs. Cicarelli, students learned firsthand how global markets operate and how investors make informed decisions.

Throughout the club, students explored how to research companies using tools like Yahoo Finance, studied trendlines, analyzed graphs, and followed major brands to understand how real-world events can influence stock performance. They practiced identifying ticker symbols, monitored market fluctuations, and discussed the importance of timing and observation—recognizing how noticing trends in everyday life can translate into investment insights.

Their diligence and teamwork led to remarkable success. On multiple dates in November, St. Rose School achieved the #1 Advisor Ranking among all schools in the region with five or more participating teams—a significant achievement in a competitive field.

Several teams reached impressive standing in the overall competition, including top rankings of 2nd, 3rd, and 5th place out of 275 participating teams. These groups built portfolios exceeding $100,000 in value through thoughtful research and strategic investing. Their excitement and pride were evident as they presented their certificates and reflected on their accomplishments.

In addition, the class collaborated to create a combined portfolio featuring one favorite stock from each team. This collective effort earned an outstanding 6th place ranking out of 275 teams, demonstrating the power of shared decision-making and diverse perspectives.

Beyond rankings and portfolio growth, the Stock Market Game offered students a meaningful opportunity to build financial literacy, strengthen analytical thinking, and experience the rewards of teamwork. The enthusiasm and engagement shown by our middle schoolers highlight the impact of hands-on learning experiences at St. Rose School.

We are incredibly proud of our students for their efforts, curiosity, and leadership throughout the program. Their success is a testament to the vibrant, engaging, and future-focused education we strive to provide every day at St. Rose.

7th Graders Create Hobbit Dioramas in Mrs. Murphy’s ELA Class

In Mrs. Murphy’s 7th grade ELA class, literature recently leaped off the page and into the hands and imaginations of our students. After reading The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien—a fantasy classic full of adventure, courage, and unforgettable characters—students were tasked with transforming their favorite scenes into creative, detailed dioramas. The result was nothing short of magical.

To complete the project, students selected a meaningful moment from the novel and recreated it using a mix of art materials, props, hand-drawn elements, and their own inventive designs. From Bilbo’s cozy hobbit-hole to the eerie depths of Gollum’s cave, each diorama captured the essence of Tolkien’s world while showcasing the individuality and artistic expression of each student.

The classroom buzzed with excitement. Discussions about plot, symbolism, setting, and character development naturally flowed as students brought the story to life through their models. It was clear that the hands-on process helped deepen their understanding of the themes and the growth of the story’s unlikely hero, Bilbo Baggins.

On presentation day, students proudly shared their creations with classmates, explaining why they chose their particular scene and how it reflected key moments in the novel. Mrs. Murphy noted how engaged the students were throughout the entire project—from close reading and planning to building and presenting. Projects like these support deeper comprehension while fostering creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.

The diorama showcase was not only a celebration of hard work and imagination but also a reminder of the power of great literature to inspire and connect students. The Hobbit’s themes of bravery, friendship, and stepping outside one’s comfort zone resonated strongly with the 7th graders—many of whom took their own creative risks through this project.

We are incredibly proud of the effort and enthusiasm our students brought to this assignment. Their dioramas reflected both artistic talent and a genuine love of reading—two things we hope to continue nurturing throughout their journey at St. Rose School.

This project was entirely student-driven. With just a few turkey gobbles during announcements and a simple flyer, students checked the Turkey Trot track daily, strategizing and encouraging each other to move their buddy turkey forward. Their teamwork and enthusiasm showed what St. Rose spirit is all about!

We’ve already made two deliveries — shelves are stocked for Thanksgiving — and the remaining items will be delivered next week to keep supporting families well into the winter months.

Our children showed once again that many hands make light work. When it was time to gather items for delivery, one quick call brought out carts, teamwork, and strong arms ready to help. Their willingness to step up, take charge, and serve others truly reflects the heart of St. Rose.

A day full of creativity, laughter, and unforgettable school spirit!

Our students never fail to amaze us — not only do they get the job done, but they’re always up for a challenge! This week was no exception as we held our first annual “Anything BUT a Backpack Day”… and WOW, did our students deliver!

From baskets and buckets to mailboxes, pots & pans, garbage cans, wheelbarrows, golf bags, luggage, pet carriers and so much more — you name it, it came through our doors!

Our elementary students enjoyed unpacking their clever “book carriers” for the day, while our spirited middle schoolers committed fully and traveled from class to class with their creations in tow. Hearing wheels rolling down the sidewalk and peeking out to see laundry baskets, Christmas stockings, and even wheelbarrows being pulled along brought the biggest smile to our faces!

We kicked off the morning with a parade in the Gathering Hall where every idea got its moment to shine, followed by homeroom favorites and even a mini-parade from our littlest learners.

In the end, there were prizes… but even better, there was joy, laughter, imagination, and school spirit everywhere we looked.

Here’s to creativity, fun, and a new tradition that we already can’t wait to bring back next year!

The annual St. Rose Pumpkin Bowl brought excitement, energy, and plenty of school pride to our campus once again! This much-anticipated fall tradition gave our middle-school students the chance to show their athleticism, teamwork, and good sportsmanship in a friendly flag-football competition.

The day kicked off with prayer and cheers echoing across the field as students took their positions, ready to represent their classes with pride. Dressed in team colors and smiles, players gave it their all—diving for flags, celebrating touchdowns, and encouraging one another every step of the way. Teachers and parents lined the sidelines, cheering just as loudly as the students!

Between the games, classmates enjoyed music, snacks, and plenty of laughs. Younger grades joined in the fun as spectators, soaking up the sunshine and showing off their school spirit with handmade signs and festive fall accessories. The day captured the very best of the St. Rose community—joy, togetherness, and a healthy dose of competition.

A group of animated, focused Kindergarten students stood by their

boards with pointers and explained the interesting, relevant experiments

they had conducted to the many visitors (including students in all grades,

teachers and parents) who stopped in throughout the day. It was evident

by their subject matter and presentation that these young students have

learned the foundations of STEM and are building a strong foundation

of knowledge and skills for future discoveries.

Crowning of Mary -- In this beautiful month of May, we give extra attention

to our beautiful Blessed Mother. Grades 3-8 recently gathered in the church

to recite the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary (led by upper grade students),

to reflect on the faith, motherhood and graces of Mary, and to place a crown of flowers

upon her head (done by two Kindergarten and two 8th grade students). The reverence,

respect and integrity displayed by all students is a hallmark of St. Rose School.

A feast for the ears and eyes

A variety of art pieces created by students in Preschool - 8th grade, including pottery made by Middle school students, were showcased throughout the school for visitors to enjoy. Proceeds from entry donations and student made bracelet sales will benefit a food program for a Mission school in the Philippines run by the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth. Pottery sales will raise scholarships for local students (who would otherwise not have this opportunity) to attend Brett Nichols You Gotta Believe summer Basketball Camp. St. Rose School is blessed to have a talented, insightful Art teacher who opens the world of artists, art genres and inner creativity to all students. The Band program invites students into the beautiful world of music as they learn to play various instruments. The beautiful sounds of instruments, from violins to drums to flutes and trombones, floated through the air as students performed an array of pieces they have learned and mastered through the Band program. St. Rose School has a strong commitment to the Arts.

Twelve St. Rose students, grades 4-7, who won both the school and regional Invention Convention, recently traveled to the University of Connecticut for the State competition. Several of those students received awards for their inventions. Anthony Kari, grade 5, received the Push for Entrepreneurship Award in Sports and Fitness for his 2 in 1 Swimmer’s Cap. Haley Ventresca, grade 7, received the Pfizer Health and Safety Award for her Handi-Helper. Connor Flynn, grade 7, was again recognized for his invention, Safe-Twist, which previously was recognized by the Connecticut Academy of Science & Engineering (CASE); he also received a special Congressional recognition. Congratulations to all of our creative and focused inventors. Programs such as these add dimension to the curriculum and open a world of possibilities to students.

Lively lessons make lasting impressions! This is true for St. Rose first graders who spent time studying U.S. Presidents and First Ladies that culminated in a school wide parade in which they dressed as their respective historical figures and marched through the halls of the school carrying signs and waving American flags. The entire school lined the hallways to show their support.

Exceptional enrichment programs add a dynamic dimension to the curriculum at St. Rose School. One example is the Finance Club where students learn key components of investing and other important financial functions that can be applied in many aspects of life. One of the activities they engage in is a national Monopoly tournament that challenges their investment strategies. One of the 7th grade students recently took first place in the tournament with an impressive investment portfolio.

What makes daily life at St. Rose School extra special is living our faith outwardly and working together as a school family to bring God's light to those in need. During CSW students and faculty created an assembly line

Thanks to everyone who made our Blooms Benefit a great success! It was a wonderful night of connections as people spanning 23+ years of Monsignor's time at St Rose School and parish gathered to show him love and appreciation for all he has done to help us Bloom. It was also a significant fundraiser for St. Rose School. Funds raised will help us bridge the tuition gap and ensure that this stellar academic, faith focused education continues for students in Preschool - 8th grade. We have a rich history and a bright future because of you!

One of the outstanding aspects of the curriculum at St. Rose School is the Buddy program which pairs older students with younger students in a variety of activities including reading sessions, school assemblies and service outreaches. Being responsible role models gives older students confidence and purpose; younger students also gain confidence, feel connected and aspire to be role models one day. Many alumni reflect about the impact the Buddy program had on their school experience.

Three Cheers for the St. Rose School Class of 2023!

Uniquely gifted with hearts of gold, the St. Rose School Class of 2023 leaves a lasting mark in our halls and on our hearts. Whether they joined in Preschool, Kindergarten or later these students were bonded through their memorable experiences at St. Rose School. Working together under the guidance of Art teacher Mrs. Ferriter they created a mural of St. Rose of Lima in the entry hallway of the school. They received recognition for their academic and service related accomplishments and many received scholarships reflective of their contributions. They will be missed but know that these halls will always be a home. May God bless and guide these students as they set off on their high school journey.

Aug 25, 2022, 11:43 AM
Our family is growing! St. Rose School Admissions and Advancement, along with faculty, HSA, parent and student ambassadors, hosted a Welcome Breakfast for all new families. It was an exciting morning as students from Preschool - Middle School engaged in games and activities while new parents and family members chatted with current school parents and faculty. St. Rose School is like a second family and it is at these types of events that the bonds of long lasting friendships begin. We have a rich history and a bright future, offering a stellar academic, faith focused education that helps children BLOOM in mind, heart and soul.

Is blinking a voluntary or involuntary muscle? How many bones make up a human skeleton, and what are the measurements? Seventh grade students made many discoveries in the school's state of the art science lab where they conducted a muscle lab and measured skeleton bones. Every student named and designed a skeleton for a contest that was judged by other classes in the school. Hands on learning opportunities make a lasting impression.

Welcome New Families!

Crusader Parent Involvement hours are tracked in X2VOL. Your parent accounts were established over the summer and an email was sent to you with your personalized account registration instructions. X2VOL gives you the opportunity to join a pre-defined opportunity or to add a personal project, to upload your receipts and to keep track of your parent hours.

Each family will have one account for tracking parent service hours. All hours performed on behalf of Crusader Parent Involvement hours should be tracked in that parent account. The parent account and opportunities are separate from the student accounts and opportunities.

Crusader Parent Involvement hours must be performed to directly benefit Tampa Catholic High School. For example, working for three hours at a non-profit organization will not earn parent service hour credit, but acting as a chaperone to TC students working at a non-profit as requested by a TC faculty or staff member will earn parent service hours. Writing a check to a specific team or TC organization will not earn parent service hours, but providing a meal to a specific TC team or organization will earn parent service hours once the X2VOL entry is completed with a receipt attached.

Donations of items will be credited at a rate of one hour per $20 spent on donations. A receipt must be attached to X2VOL in order to be credited for a donation.

Questions regarding parent X2VOL accounts and activity may be directed to Missy Vivino.

Our first and fifth grades collected baskets, eggs, and Easter treats to assemble baskets and Easter goody bags. After all the Easter baskets and bags were lovingly assembled, the classes took a walk over to the church and then continued on to Faith Food Pantry where they donated the baskets and bags. The service project brought fun, together time for the buddies, and put a smile on everyone's face knowing that they were going to bring joy to children and families on Easter Day!

Promoting peace through art is the focus of Fermata Arts, an organization of which St. Rose School Art Teacher Mrs. Meagan Ferriter is a member. Recently the school received beautiful artwork created by students, ages 5 to 15, in Ukraine that is now on display at St. Rose School. Students in K-8 are visiting the exhibit to study aspects of Art that they are learning in class. Teachers are also using the exhibit as a springboard to discuss current affairs in an age appropriate manner. Mrs. Ferriter is working on "We are the World" themed projects with her students that will eventually be sent to classrooms in Ukraine.

St. Rose School Blooms Brick Walk Paves the Way to Many Bright Futures

We are creating a brick walk by the Angel of Hope statue directly in front of St. Rose School. This is a wonderful way to connect the past, present and future generations who walk in our halls. Bricks make great gifts and capture fond memories, mark special occasions such as Confirmation, First Holy Communion, Graduation, weddings, sports highlights. They also are a lovely tribute to loved ones who have passed away. By adding your brick to the walk you also help St. Rose School continue to provide a stellar academic, faith focused education to students in Preschool through 8th grades. Brick purchases can be made online, https://polarengraving.com/stroseoflimaschool. Questions? Email bloomsbricks@srles.com.

Innovative lessons such as the Pi-Line skyline to celebrate national Pi Day, the 5th grade competition to list as many digits in Pi, 2nd grade weather erosion experiments, 1st grade Polar Bear gummy experiment and 3rd grade’s “Step into History” reports. as well as the upper grades Virtual Mock Trial competition, are among the many exciting things happening these days. Service projects continue with great enthusiasm. Raising money for needy children in Haiti, Autism Awareness and Breast Cancer research are among the many causes St. Rose School supports. Our students are building bonds with senior citizens in town and our Kindergarten class does a monthly outreach to the police department. Teachers continue to inspire students to reach their God given potential through innovative lessons and projects. Students continue to excel in all areas. 8th grader John Paul Dyer received the St. Thomas Aquinas Award for academic excellence and faith through service; 5th grader Luke Budzynski won the Regional Knights of Columbus Spelling Bee and is advancing to the State level. The St. Rose School Chess Club is participating in State finals. We are a blessed community.

Your support helps: bridge the tuition gap, cover extra Covid related expenses, keep our faculty running smoothly, enhance our security and technology, provide professional development for our teachers and ensure that all students have the tools they need to reach their God given potential. Thank you and God bless!

2020-2021 Bus Schedules Available Now

For St. Rose Bus Routes
The 2020-21 school bus routes are available.

Residents are asked to share issues or concerns with their child’s bus stop location by calling All-Star Transportation at 203-304-9778.

The bus schedules are subject to revision due to enrollment changes such as transfers, address changes, or additional registrations.

The time printed with each bus route is the approximate time the bus will make its first pickup in the morning. Please do not worry if a bus is late. It generally takes a few days for students to become accustomed to the bus routes and schedules.

Students should be at the appropriate stops 10 minutes before the time listed on the bus route. The stop times can vary 10 minutes either way, depending on traffic, weather, and the number of students riding the bus.
