An exceptional academic curriculum is core to our school. The St. Rose of Lima School curriculum is flexible to meet the varying learning abilities of students, and affords every student the opportunity to achieve his or her fullest potential.

The Curriculum in the Catholic Schools of The Diocese of Bridgeport supports the continuous improvement of student achievement and was designed not only to meet, but to exceed state and national standards. It helps students reach their full potential not only now, but also in higher education and in their adult lives. Teachers and administrators designed this proprietary curriculum under the guidance of national experts in Curriculum Mapping, a process of organizing and planning what is happening in our classrooms at specific points during the school year. The maps are aligned with Gospel Values in every subject area so that students always learn in an atmosphere that includes Christ at its center. Our programs also meet or exceed the standards mandated by the Common Core Standards.

We are accredited by NEASC and use an outstanding, nationally-recognized curriculum mapping process. Learn more about our Pre-School program on our Pre-School page. The curriculum for students in kindergarten through eighth grade includes language arts, religion, grade- and advanced-level math (Pre-Algebra, Advanced Pre-Algebra and Algebra), social studies, technology and features weekly classes in physical education, art and music. Students at St. Rose learn cursive handwriting, a feature not available in most schools today.

St. Rose of Lima School uses the Developmental Reading Assessment, also known as the DRA, as a benchmark assessment three times throughout the school year. This tool measures a student’s reading accuracy and his/her reading comprehension level and shows a child’s reading growth over time. It provides information on the student’s reading level and, most importantly, what it is our students need to do to improve reading skills and behaviors. Our students’ progress is actively measured by teachers and also validated through rigorous, research-based technology programs such as Accelerated Reader, Accelerated Math, and Riverside Assessments. Daily instruction is tailored by each teacher to address individual student needs. Terra Nova tests are conducted and analyzed at the end of each school year.
