Standardized Testing

Saint Rose School Standardized Testing

Dear Parents,

The Basic Skills Individual Performance Profile displays various types of measurement and analysis.  The NS (National Stanine) score and the NPR (National Percentage Rank) score is how we assess the performance of each student in the areas tested.  These two scores indicate how a student compares with other students in the nation in his or her grade and the NPR graph allows for a quick comparison of a child’s performance in different areas relative to one another. The NS is rated 1-10, therefore, a Stanine 5 score indicates an average grade/age level performance score.  The Cognitive Abilities score report correlates the child’s age to a standard ranking and, if your child also took the IOWA Basic Skills test, provides a narrative that compares and analyzes skills performance with cognitive abilities.

Riverside Publishing has a very in-depth explanation of the tests, the purpose of the tests and how to interpret the test scores on their website.  I recommend strongly that you visit the site, www.riversidepublishing.com, to understand more fully your child’s performance.

In addition, the teachers have offered to discuss further how to interpret the scores with you should you find it necessary.  Every teacher reviews the individual performance of students and collectively we determine how to improve or to maintain instructional methodology, student goal setting, student academic growth from previous tests, as well as identifying areas of strength and weakness in content areas.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Mary R. Maloney
