2007/2008 Student Handbook

Upper School

The Upper School:               Grades 7 and 8

We provide a forum for students to become critical thinkers by introducing a challenging language arts, math, and science program and integrating them with  technology, religion, history, foreign language, art and music.  Students are encouraged to solve problems resourcefully and partake in programs such as speech contests, National Junior Honor Society and insightful  essay writing contests.  Teachers encourage students to take risks in order to experience true success.  And, because students develop at different rates, St. Rose School provides a  middle school program that introduces  two academic sessions at each grade level.  While adhering to curriculum standards, the split sessions offer teachers the flexibility to use different instructional methods in order to accommodate the variance in learning styles and provide students with the ability to master the vital components of  our academic program.  The only deviation from this standard is in our mathematics program where students must qualify to participate in the Algebra 1 session.  It is the intent of our middle school program to allow students to go forth with a sense of strong faith, self-esteem and confidence in their intellectual ability.

The faculty is entirely departmentalized by subject.  The block schedule allows students and teachers 90 minute sessions is science and language arts, provides enrichment classes, and allows students to move from classroom to classroom. This enables them to transition smoothly into a high school learning environment.
