Curriculum

Attitudes often become self-fulfilling prophecies

– schools that maintain high standards achieve higher results.

 

 

 The St. Rose School curriculum is created to meet and exceed the requirements of the State of Connecticut Department of Education, the Diocese of Bridgeport, and the accreditation guidelines established by the NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges).

 

Through a rigorous process of self-study, St. Rose School continually evaluates its curriculum.  As the faculty examines each content area annually, it develops objectives to meet the changing needs of its students as well as educational standards.  St. Rose School provides classes for K - 8 students in the following subject areas:

Mathematics Physical Education Social Studies Music Appreciation (5-8)
Science Computer Technology Foreign Language Library Skills (K-5)

Note: mathematics includes Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1.

The Results…

·     In recent Iowa Basic Skills Test, St. Rose School students ranked in the top 10% to 15% nationally.

 

·     Beginning in the second grade our students are eligible to be candidates for entry into the John Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth Program.  Eligible candidates are administered an exam of which a high percentage of St. Rose students achieve scoring in the top ranking are accepted into the program.

 

·        Many of our graduates gain admission to private and diocesan secondary schools such as Immaculate High School, Notre Dame, St. Joseph, Fairfield Prep, Lauralton Hall and Holy Cross.

 

·        Many of the students who attend Newtown High School have transitioned easily into their honors programs.

 

·        Statistically over 90 percent of St. Rose's high school graduates attend college.  A recent alumni survey found that St. Rose students attended and successfully completed programs at prestigious institutions including, Yale University, The U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Babson University, Boston College, Georgetown University, Loyola College, Maritime College, University of Maryland, Villanova and Fairfield University.
