Week of
March 20-24
RELIGION: The
children continue to discuss the season of Lent and how they can
grow to be more like Jesus in words and actions. We continue to
discuss how Jesus gathers friends to help others.
MATH:
The children will continue to recognize a whole divided into
equal parts; explore halves; understand the concept of equal
shares/practice dividing sets into equal groups;
estimate/measure length of an object using nonstandard units;
estimate/measure distance between objects/around shapes using
nonstandard units.
SCIENCE: The
children continue to classify and describe the characteristics
of living and non-living things. We will also discuss animals
of the world - their characteristics and habitats - as we
celebrate International Week.
LANGUAGE ARTS: The children continue with our theme Bug Surprises and we’ll
read several theme based books to include: Look Closer,
Wonderful Worms, Diary of A Worm, The Fearsome Beast, Eeency
Weency Spider, The Ants Came Marching. We will also continue
to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday during this month by reading a
variety of his books. The children will use pictures and prior
knowledge to understand vocabulary, summarize a selection; make
predictions; develop vocabulary by discussing challenging words;
recognize story characters; understand sentences are made up of
words; distinguish between real/make-believe; understand naming
words; identify rhyming words; sequence events in a song;
recognize number words; anticipate text.
PHONICS: The
children will decode short vowel /o/ words; blend /o/ and /t/;
decode short vowel /o/ words; read the decodable book The
Big Ram; build/read simple one-syllable words with /o/
and /t/; understand that as letters in words change, so do the
sounds; recognize upper/lowercase Oo and Pp and match sounds to
letters; identify the initial sounds of words; blend /o/ and
/p/; build/read -op words; read the decodable book
What Can Hop?
HANDWRITING: The
children will trace and write upper/lowercase Oo and -op
words.
Friendly Reminders
With all
the many activities planned for International Week, the children
will not participate in gym on Tuesday and Wednesday,
3/21-22. Please have your child come dressed in their regular
school uniform. Thank you.
Community Service Project:
We are supporting The Faith Food Pantry in Sandy Hook for the
remainder of the year. Thanks to all families who have already
sent in donations. Your support and generosity are most
appreciated!
Supplies Needed:
Thanks to all families who have generously donated more tissues
to our classroom. Colds and allergies are still running high
due to this unpredictable March weather. Your generosity is
most appreciated.
