 NEWSLETTER

Week of March 20-24

Theme:  International Week

Religion:  We will continue to discuss how we grow during Lent.  The children will understand that they can be signs of love like Jesus.

Math:  The students will recognize and extend shape patterns involving solid figures and plane figures, use a model to solve a problem, review and practice material presented in chapter six and demonstrate mastery of using non-standard units to measure height and width and show one-half of a solid figure.

Science:  The students will recognize that the moon appears to change shape and observe that change occurs gradually, repetitively or randomly with the environment.

Language Arts:  We will read several theme-based stories; Snow Girl: A Russian Folktale, Little Fox and the Tiger: A Chinese Folktale, Little Bunny and the Crocodile: A Japanese Folktale, Lazy Jack: An English Folktale, The Silly Wishes:  A French Folktale, The Orange in the Hole: A Vietnamese Folktale, etc.  The students will listen and respond to folktales, use pictures and details to make predictions, identify rhyming words, recognize a table of contents, describe objects and identify action words.

Phonics: The students will identify the initial sound of spoken words, build and read simple, one-syllable words, blend /o/ and /x/, and read pre-decodable book, What Is in the Box?

Writing:  The students will review and write ox words.

Reminders:

  • Monday, March 20th will be a dress-down day for our field trip to Flander’s Nature Center.  Please dress your child warmly with waterproof boots if possible!
